Illinois will begin using photo radar in highway/tollway work zones in July.

One mile per hour over the speed limit and the machine will get you a nice $375.00 ticket in the mail.

Beginning July 1st the State of Illinois will begin using the speed cameras in areas designated as “Work Zones” on major highways/tollways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense.The SECOND offense will cost $1000 and comes with a 90 day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allow insurance companies to raise rates.

This is the harshest penalty structure ever set for a government unit involving PHOTO speen enforcement. The State has two camera vans on line issuing tickets 24/7 in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45MPH. Photos of both driver and license plates are taken.

Step Back In Time

I recently heard an advertisement on the radio for Connor Prairie and it took me back to a long-passed weekend my husband and I spent in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Just a short drive outside Indianapolis is an outdoor interactive living history museum. It recreates life in Indiana in the 19th century on the White River. Staff in period costumes demonstrate the way early inhabitants in the area lived. They explain their lifestyle in character while performing chores such as cooking, chopping wood, tending animals, making candles and pottery. Patrons are often invited to join in.

The museum’s newest exhibition opened in June 2011. The 1863 Civil War journey: Morgan Raid, with live action, video and interaction activities. If you enjoy history, Connor Prairie is worth the drive. It also has special events and school field trips.

Tasty Summer Barbecue Recipes

Summer is here, everyone, and that means one thing: BBQ time!

I have the perfect marinade recipe for chicken and pork chops. Super easy and has bursting summer flavors!

1 10oz bottle of soy sauce
1 10oz bottle of teriyaki sauce
1 C vinegar
1 32oz bottle of beer
1 onion, sliced
2 bay leaves
2 lemons, halved and squeezed
A small palm full of whole peppercorns

Place in a large stock pot or bowl. After all has been added over your choice of meat, fill the rest of the pot with water. Stir and let marinate! Chicken – 10 hours. Pork – 15 hours

With this main dish, I also made some Pocket Potatoes:

Make a pocket out of tin foil.

6 potatoes. diced
2 Tbsp of rosemary
2 cloves of garlic, minced
3 Tbsp of olive oil

Stir up and place in tin foil pocket. Put on grill and let cook until potatoes are fork tender. Serve with a side salad and cool beverage. And last but not least, enjoy!

Sunscreen can be your best defense against premature aging and skin cancer if used correctly! Here are some tips to get the most out of your sun protector:

For everyday wear, use a UVA/UVB with an SPF of 15 or higher.
Try to limit your time in the sun, but if you must be in it for a long amount of time, use an almond sized amount of UVA/UVB with an SPF of 30 or more to the face.
Don’t forget the rest of your body! Apply one ounce (think the size of a shot glass) of sunscreen to your entire body at least half an hour before you head outside.
Re-apply every 3-4 hours and if you’re in and out of water.
See your Doc every year for a professional exam, as well as your Esthetician (ME! ME!) to help maintain your skin!

A Great Place to Get Ready for Bathing Suit Season

Hello everyone! Summer is just around the corner which means its also almost bathing suit season!

I have recently discovered a great gym in Crestwood that I absolutely love! It’s called xsport fitness and it’s great! So many brand new machines and many personal trainers available to answer any questions you may have. They also have very clean, nice locker rooms, a child care area, group classes and tanning available. It’s a little drive for me but it’s worth it! A Great Pet Store

I’d like to give a shout out to a store called, Ted’s Feed, in Lansing, IL. I happened to start shopping there when my then 4 1/2 year old German Shepherd, CJ, had been suffering for 3 years with chronic skin allergies. After many tests, medications and special diets, I was looking for information on raw diet for dogs.

It just so happens the day I stopped in, there was a representative from a company that distributes a brand of raw diet giving information. She was very helpful and gave me a bag of raw diet to try. I also found out from one of the employees that the dry food he was taking had a preservative ingredient that some dogs have allergic reactions to. She suggested an all natural brand. Since CJ was switched over to a combination of raw and all natural kibble diet, his skin conditions have improved and his coat is thick and shiny.

Several times a year, Ted’s also has Spay of Illinois come to give pets their vaccines and heart worm test. You’ll receive a savings with no charge for an office visit at your vets. I saved $40.

Ted’s Feed has products for all pets, and with the recent recalls on dog treats, that have been causing dog’s to have kidney failure, I know I can count on Ted’s to check on the products they sell. They carry a large variety of all natural, wheat and grain-free food and treats. The majority of the products they sell are made here in the good old USA.
